Natatorium Park, Spokane, WA

Baseball

Babe Ruth in Spokane? It's true, The Babe played in an exhibition game at Natatorium Park on October 17, 1924.

Also playing that day was Bob Muesel, who once played for the Spokane Indians. Bob hit one out of the park in the sixth inning, and then Babe Ruth hit one over the sign on the centerfield fence in the eighth.

Baseball began at Natatorium Park before the park had a natatorium. In the early days, the park was named Twickenham Park after an adjoining housing development with the same name.

Joe DiMaggio also made an appearance at Natatorium's baseball field at one time. Eventually though, interest in baseball at The Nat faded, and the baseball diamond was turned into the Midget Raceway in 1939.
